Common questions
Why do nosings need to contrast in colour?
Because the most common cause of a stair fall is misjudging the step edge. Colour contrast on the nosing is a recognised control and it costs very little.
Can external steel stairs be treated?
Yes, with systems specified for steel and for exposure. Fire escapes are frequently the worst surface on a site and the least often inspected.
Do we need to close the stairs?
Usually only half at a time, or overnight. Where a stair is the only escape route we programme carefully and keep it available.
How quickly can the area be reopened?
It depends on the system and the temperature. Rapid cure products take foot traffic in an hour or two and vehicles the same day. Standard resin systems generally need overnight. We tell you the cure times before you commit so you can plan around them.
Why do coatings fail?
Almost always preparation. A coating applied over a contaminated, polished or unsound substrate will lift within months however good the product is. Preparation is most of the labour on any coating job and it is what determines whether it lasts.
