Common questions
Can you just coat over cracks?
Not if you want the coating to last. A live crack will reflect through within weeks. Even dormant cracks need filling so the coating has continuous support.
How do you know if a crack is live?
By how it presents, its pattern and where it is. Where movement is suspected we monitor or use a flexible detail rather than a rigid repair.
Should movement joints be coated over?
No. A joint exists because the slab moves. Coating over it simply moves the crack a few millimetres and makes it look like the coating failed.
How quickly can the area be reopened?
It depends on the system and the temperature. Rapid cure products take foot traffic in an hour or two and vehicles the same day. Standard resin systems generally need overnight. We tell you the cure times before you commit so you can plan around them.
Why do coatings fail?
Almost always preparation. A coating applied over a contaminated, polished or unsound substrate will lift within months however good the product is. Preparation is most of the labour on any coating job and it is what determines whether it lasts.
